On July 15th, 2011 the last installment of the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was released in theaters across the world.
Today marks the one-year anniversary of the movie release! The night before, one year ago, fans lined up in movie theaters to watch a marathon of Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2, or waited for the midnight release in cinemas. Many went back to see it a second, third, and fourth time.
The Death Hallows Part 2 would go on to receive critical acclaim and approval from diehard fans. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film went on to snag the one of the highest ratings for the 2011 year getting a positive rating of 96%.
Many critics and fans praised individual performances such as our Alan Rickman as Severus Snape and Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. For a film as a whole, and for several actors, rallying for Oscar nominations were rightfully sparked, however, support from the Academy Awards was practically non-existent.
Deathly Hallows Part 2 did go on to win the Golden Tomato award for 2011, more than several Best Film of the Year awards by critic associations, and several fan's choice awards such as Best Hero and Best Cast at the 2011 MTV Movie Awards.
To celebrate the first anniversary, fans on tumblr held a Harry Potter party - only making posts with Harry Potter content, watching the premiere at 4pm eastern, and then DH2 at 9pm eastern.
#AlwaysPotterhead, After All This Time, #1YearDH2, #HarryPotterGeneration trended on Twitter.
