On July 15th, 2005, the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was released in cinemas across the world. The sixth book follows Harry after the death of his godfather, Sirius Black, in Order of the Phoenix, and places him alongside Dumbledore in the search for the seven horcruxes.
The film made a record $934 million at the box office in just five days of being released. At the time it became the 8th highest grossing film of all time, just behind the James Cameron spectacle, Avatar.

While reading a scene from the films script, where Dumbledore revealed he had a crush on a girl, JK Rowling revealed to the production crew that she had thought of Dumbledore of gay. She later revealed the information to the public during the Deathly Hallows book promotions.
This is only the second time a full game of Quidditch had made a prescence in the film - the other film was Chamber of Secrets.
This is the first film of the series that JK Rowling is listed as producer.
Christian Coulson originally played Tom Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets film does not return in his role for the sixth film. Some speculated that he was too old to take over the role once again, and was replaced by Ralph Fiennes nephew, Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, who plays Riddle as a young child, and Frank Dillane as a teenager.
Jessie Cave, who plays Lavender Brown, beat out thousands of girl to play the love-obsessed classmate to Ron Weasley.
"There's a fair amount of sexual energy and some drug parallels," Daniel Radcliffe, once compared to Half Blood Prince to Trainspotting.
Helen McCory who first appears as Narcissa Malfoy, was originally going to play Bellatrix Lestrange - a role that went to Helena Bonham Carter - but was replaced due to her pregnancy. The role was also offered to Naomi Watts but was turned down by her agency.
