Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire book release date

After previously rescuing his godfather Sirius Black from the clutches of dementor's kiss, Harry Potter returns to his fourth year at Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Unlike any challenge he's faced before, the young Gryffindor student is inadvertently entered into a deadly series of challenges known as the Triwizard Tournament.

Like the second book in the series Chamber of Secrets, Rowling had difficulty writing this fourth addition. Halfway through the book, the author realized a major plothole and decided to rewrite the story. The rumored flaw of the original plot is an additional Weasley family member who follows Harry around the school during the Triwizard tournament and releases  information to the press about him. Rowling discovered that this character was far too out there, because what teenager would have these kinds of connections, and decided to make change the plot with Rita Skeeter in mind instead.

Up to this point, Goblet of Fire was the biggest book of the series, only to be outdone by the next installment Order of the Phoenix. On July 8th, 2000, the book was published in the UK by Bloomsbury and Scholastic in the United States at the same time. Rowling earned several awards including a Hugo Award.
