The Harry Potter marathon comes at a rather interesting time. The ABC Family channel will be changing its name and brand starting in the new year. Its new identity will be known as FreeForm. The channels focus which has been in the works for nearly a decade is an ongoing attempt at reigning in 'Becomers', the Millenial generation, to their young-adult centered programming.
Fans of the fandom usually participate in annual summer marathons of the movies. There's no word yet if Harry Potter will continue to be apart of the scheduling. It is funny and strange to note that before their official switch, Goblet of Fire has been added to the marathon line-up - the movie was exclusively aired on HBO and excluded from past programming. The new addition could very well mean that ABC Family will hold onto their rights of the franchise in 2016, but it's all speculation right now.
