Twenty years ago the boy who lived made his mark on readers in the U.S. Kids and adults discovered the wizarding world through J.K.Rowling's Harry Potter series. Now to celebrate its initial publication, Scholastic is commemorating the two decades of magic with new covers! Today we got the official first look!
To create the covers, intricate details about the characters and places we love have been laid out in the black and white artwork.
Rendered in Selznick’s stunning signature black-and-white style with jewel-toned type, the seven covers depict thrilling moments and beloved characters from across the series, including Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Albus Dumbledore, and many more. Here are a look at the covers individually - and guess what happens when you put them together? They render one complete look!

The covers have been recreated by talented artists Mary GrandPre to Kazu Kibuishi in the past, and now illustrator Brian Selznick joins their ranks. Selznick described his process to Scholastic on how he created the covers individually and mapped them out together.
One of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of the process was drawing seven independent covers that would stand on their own, while making sure that they also lined up to create one single satisfying image. It took dozens and dozens of sketches to get it right, and I am thrilled to share my great love for the books with these new illustrations. And here's a look at the covers together!
As part of a year-long campaign by Scholastic, the newly designed books to be released in June. A full box set will follow in September. What do you think of the new covers?
