Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Film Release

Today, on November 16th, 2001, the first movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (or "Sorcerer's Stone" in the US) was released in the US and UK.

My memory of seeing the first movie doesn't take place specifically ten years ago but last weekend! I had seen the movie before on television but with commercials and other interruptions going on in the space around me, it wasn't a magical experience. Seeing it for the first time on the big screen was a better experience I could have ever hoped for! I'll never forget the surprise expression on Harry's face when he finds hes a wizard or the last hug to Hagrid before Harry boards the Hogwarts Railway.

From my childhood years, I must say I don't really remember seeing the trailer for the first time but I remember the news coverage about how the first book and film had caught on like wildfire across the world, Warner Bros stores filling up with HP merchandise, and so forth. It's hard to believe that this magical decade has ended (time-wise) - there are no more books or movies coming out. But to think for the millions of fans like myself who will just get into the series, there is so much to look forward to.

What were your first impressions
when you first saw the Sorcerer's Stone film?
