JK Rowling Reveals We've Been Pronouncing 'Voldemort' Wrong

J.K. Rowling Reveals Fans Have Been Mispronouncing Voldemort

J.K. Rowling once again has set twitter and the Harry Potter fan community aflame with the revelation that the ‘t’ in Voldemort’s name is silent. Some fans have thought this has been common knowledge for quite some time. Other Potterheads have apologized to Rowling for mispronouncing the Dark Lord’s name all these years.

The surprising confession might beg the question why this was not shared or relayed to the films’ producers - in which all eight movies pronounce a prominent ‘t’. Nevertheless, it’s one new fact that fans can add to the collection of post-series insights that have been made by the beloved author.

  1. Rowling makes me nervous sometimes. Like, I'm afraid she's going to be a bunch of retconning the way George Lucas did. If this were truly a big deal, like you said, why didn't she point it out to the director in the first movie? This doesn't bother me as much as her comments about Ron and Hermione's marriage, at least.

  2. Rowling makes me nervous sometimes. I'm always afraid she's going to go the George Lucas way and start retconning a bunch of stuff. Like you said, if this was really a big deal, why didn't she point it out to the producers during the first film? It doesn't bother me as much as her comments on Ron and Hermione's marriage, but it's still an odd thing to say.
