“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” Now Available for School Productions Through Broadway Licensing Global
Broadway Licensing Global has announced that licenses for the school edition of the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child are now available. This edition is designed specifically for high school and secondary school theater productions, with licenses available for performances starting in fall 2024.
The adaptation, created in collaboration with Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender, and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, has been modified to better suit school settings. This includes a shorter runtime and adjustments to the staging to make it feasible for school theater capabilities. The adaptation process started in September 2023 after Broadway Licensing Global acquired the amateur licensing rights.
The producers, Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, expressed their enthusiasm about the adaptation: “This provides an opportunity for schools worldwide to stage this play, adapted to fit their specific theatrical environments.”
Schools that license the play will receive an official production package, which includes actor scripts, required music, and a media kit, among other materials. These packages are set to be distributed starting this summer to prepare for the upcoming school year productions.
Educators interested in licensing the play can do so through the website LicenseCursedChild.com. Ted Chapin, Interim Chief Executive Officer of Broadway Licensing Global, stated, “The focus was on adapting the play to be accessible for schools with varying resources while maintaining an engaging production quality.”
