Harry Potter TV Series Scheduled for 2026 Debut on Max

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that the “Harry Potter” TV series will be released on the Max streaming platform in 2026. The series aims to offer a comprehensive adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven books, focusing on the detailed exploration of the magical world she created.

Casey Bloys, the Chairman and CEO of HBO & Max Content, has emphasized the company’s intention to deliver a faithful rendition of the books, promising a decade-long engagement with the “Harry Potter” universe. Despite this extended timeline, the “Fantastic Beasts” series will not be integrated into this new adaptation.

A diverse group of writers, including Francesca Gardiner of “Succession” fame, Kathleen Jordan, and Tom Moran, are among the finalists to lead the creative direction of the series. This selection reflects a blend of British and American talents with a background in fantasy and science fiction genres.

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, highlighted the collaborative efforts with J.K. Rowling and her team, expressing excitement about revitalizing the “Harry Potter” franchise. This announcement comes at a time when both the franchise and Rowling’s production company have seen varying financial successes, with the recent “Harry Potter And The Cursed Child” stage show and the “Hogwarts Legacy” video game indicating sustained interest in the franchise.

Viewers will have access to the series through Max, which offers several subscription tiers. Casting for the series is underway, with a focus on finding new actors to portray the iconic characters, ensuring a fresh approach to the beloved series.

Rowling’s participation as an executive producer is set to ensure the series remains aligned with the original vision of the books, amidst discussions surrounding her public statements on various issues. The project aims to highlight the themes of love and self-acceptance that are central to the “Harry Potter” narrative.
